At MDP Builds, we believe good construction is not just about bricks, steel, plasterboard and finishes. It is about planning properly, managing risk, communicating clearly and making sure every stage of the project is handled with care.
That is why we are proud to say that MDP Builds has Chartered construction management expertise within the company, supported by an MCIOB Chartered Construction Manager.
What Does MCIOB Mean?
MCIOB stands for Member of the Chartered Institute of Building. The Chartered Institute of Building, also known as CIOB, is a professional body for construction management and leadership. CIOB describes Chartered Membership as a professional status that recognises competence, knowledge and commitment to high standards within construction.
A Chartered Member can use the MCIOB designation and may also describe themselves as a Chartered Construction Manager.
For clients, this matters because it shows that construction management is being taken seriously. It is not only about getting the job done. It is about how the job is planned, controlled, documented and delivered.
Why This Matters for Homeowners and Developers
Building work can feel stressful, especially when the project involves extensions, structural alterations, new builds, wet rooms or disability adaptations. There are many moving parts, including design, pricing, materials, Building Control, structural details, subcontractors, health and safety, access, drainage, electrics, plumbing and finishing.
Good project management helps bring all of this together.
At MDP Builds, we use our construction management experience to help clients understand what is happening at each stage of the project. We aim to keep the process clear, practical and realistic from the beginning.
Our Approach to Construction Management
Every project is different, but our approach is based on a few simple principles:
Clear planning before work startsRealistic pricing and staged paymentsGood communication with the clientCoordination with architects, engineers and Building Control where requiredCareful management of subcontractors and site activityAttention to health, safety and qualityPractical problem-solving when site conditions changeRespect for the client’s home, budget and long-term needs
This is especially important on projects where there are unknowns, such as older properties, basement works, drainage problems, structural changes or specialist adaptations.
Specialist Projects Need Stronger Management
Some projects need more than standard building experience.
Disability adaptations, accessible bathrooms, wet rooms, hoist-ready rooms, ramps, platform lift preparation and therapy spaces all require careful planning. These projects often involve families, vulnerable users, specialist suppliers and very specific practical requirements.
In this type of work, small details matter. Door widths, floor levels, drainage falls, ceiling support, hoist routes, waterproofing, ventilation and access all need to be thought through properly.
Our aim is to build spaces that are not only finished well, but also work properly for the people who use them every day.
Building Better, Together
Our slogan is simple: Build Better, Together.
For us, that means working with clients, designers, engineers, Building Control and specialist suppliers in a clear and professional way. It means being honest about what we know, what needs checking and what decisions need to be made before the next stage of work begins.
Having Chartered construction management expertise within MDP Builds helps us bring a stronger level of structure, responsibility and professionalism to the projects we deliver.
Whether we are working on a home extension, new build, renovation, structural alteration, accessible wet room or specialist disability adaptation, our goal is the same:
To deliver high-quality building work with clear communication, careful planning and respect for the people who will live in the space afterwards.
